Update on not-Tux!

Published by Kim under Knitting

I started knitting the penguin last weekend only to find out that I’m allergic to the dyes (I think) in the cheapo yarn from WalMart. I guess I’ll probably return it and get something with more natural fiber content in it. My hands look like I’ve got some terrible skin disease!

I haven’t done any knitting since that happened because my fingers are just so raw and sore. I need to get pictures of the towels I knit for Mom and Deanna uploaded soon. I shared the pattern with Julie at work. She’s excited to try it out. I still have one of my two to finish up. The first one is hanging on the oven door and looking lovely though.

Maybe by Wednesday I’ll be ready to knit again. I can do that on the way to and from the airport when we pick up Dad.

I’m pleased to report that I’m just plain old ‘Merican! This is the first of these that I’ve taken that didn’t try to label me Southern by some percentage more than 50.

Here’s number one…

Published by Kim under Knitting, Fun Stuff

Well, I guess I’ve finally joined the 21st century! Here’s my first blog entry.

What I’m knitting: hanging towels for mother’s day. Two down and two to go. I’m doing them for Mom and Deanna. I hope they’ll like them. I wanted something functional and attractive that also comes from the heart. I found a pattern for free on about.com but I ended up modifying it by making it six stitches narrower and one pattern row (8 rows) longer. It just seems short in the original pattern. I’m pleased with the alterations I’ve made.

What I’m waiting to knit: I have a penguin pattern from knitty.com called Pasha that I want to make for John in honor of his new job. Here’s the picture:PashaPenguin
And the pattern can be found here if you want to make one yourself for the Linux geeks you love!

I’ve also got patterns and yarn for two sweaters I want to make for AJ and one I’d like to make for myself—but the yarn for that is yet to be purchased.
