Quoth the Raven

Published by Kim under News, Work

I was in at school for a good while this afternoon, getting ready for the summer reading program which starts on Monday. I set up all of the computers to open on the welcome page so that the kids always see the rules first. I added a little more detail about internet safety and I set up an account for Jackie Haines.

Then, I pulled the Draw 50 Birds book I have to figure out what I’m doing for a bulletin board for the library, came up with the idea for “We Are Crowing about Books at Read Write Think Repeat“. When I found a raven in the bird book though, I changed it to Raven (it’s the same family!) I did the raven drawing from the book, found a raven silhouette image online, enlarged it and hung them on the board. I think I’ll let the kids draw a bird on the board for each book they read this summer and be all set for fall.

I talked to Jim about going over my observation. He’s going to write it up and we’ll meet next week some time.

We’ll do some checking on internet permission on Monday and then we should be good to go for the summer program. Can’t wait to see how it works out!

AJ and Clifford

Published by Kim under Fun Stuff, Apple of My Eye

I took AJ to see Clifford at the movie theater today. We arrived at 8:50 for a 10:00 movie! (UGH!) They opened the doors at 9, and he did really good waiting that hour for the movie to start, although he spotted one of the kids a few rows behind us eating popcorn and started his bullying “My popcorn!” After about 3 minutes, I gave in and took him out to the concession stand to get him the kid’s snack tray—popcorn, “peppis” (pepsi) and a candy bar. He was soooooo excited about that popcorn!

When the movie started he was beside himself with joy over Clifford. Every time he saw him, he announced his name to anyone and everyone. There was a preview for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban and AJ identifed the bus and birds.

By about 15 minutes into the movie, the popcorn had wormed its way through his body and nature took its course. He stunk! We slipped out to the restroom and when we came back, he didn’t want to sit on the booster seat, he wanted to stand or sit on my lap. The lap-sitting was wonderful, because he kept giving me hugs and kisses. I love that boy!

He spent the rest of the day with Vince while I did work at school to prep for the Summer Reading Program.

Confessions of an insomniac

Published by Kim under Apple of My Eye, Confessions

While I’m really excited about all the work I got done yesterday, both here and on the school blog, I didn’t get to sleep until after 4:00 this morning, and here it is less than 5 hours later and I’m not sleeping now either.

Today, I resolve to get some sleep, have fun with AJ, and avoid the computer after 10pm.

I pick AJ up at 11 to take him to lunch with Dru, we’ll come home for a nap (for both of us!). Tomorrow, we’re going to see Clifford at the theater at the mall. They’ve got freebie movies for kids during the summer so we’ll see how that goes.

John was right, I should have gone to bed when he called me at 11, and again at 1:30. But don’t tell him that!

Moving right along

Published by Kim under News, Work

After a lot of work the last three days, I’ve got the kids reading blog set up and ready for next week. Can’t wait to see how it works out. I’ve also re-done my personal blog. I convinced John to let me see what the other possibilities were for blogging tools and found out that we had access to WordPress. The learning curve on it is a bit better than with B2Evolution which I was originally using.

In the process, I unfortunately lost all my other “stuff” because Word froze and I didn’t get my professional blogging stuff saved off. I didn’t have anything earth-shattering or irreplaceable there, so I’ll survive.

I also realized that I’m better off to have one blog and use categories for work, knitting, reading, kid-talk, etc. because I just don’t have time to do it all separately. This should streamline things a bit and that will make me happy.

John’s summoned me to bed twice already, and it’s getting late enough that I really should go, so I’m done for now.
