We had about 6 inches of snow topped off with about 1/2 inch of ice and a snow day yesterday. I sent the boy off to daycare with daddy and kept Zoe home with me (because she’ll sleep and not demand to be entertained). I mostly tried to sleep off this cold that I’ve got. I have a feeling that I’m going to wind up with a sinus infection because that’s what usually happens. I did a little bit of reading, but for the most part I was just out cold.
Zoe’s got a terrible rash on her butt right now. I did trek out for Ba|mex yesterday in hopes that would get things under control. Today, Marilyn suggested it might be yeast. I don’t know whether I can use some adult topical for baby yeast or not—anyone know? I was also wondering if it could be an allergic reaction to the generic diapers that I started using last weekend. Could be, but I kind of doubt that. John suggested I might want to try going with cloth for her to see if that helps—I guess he wants to do laundry!
Tomorrow is inservice for us, so I’ll trudge along through the morning—the music people may call me in for help in developing their research project—if the others don’t agree to our suggested modifications, M and I will just do it on the down-low. The librarians will meet in the afternoon to discuss automation and the grant. I’ll be ready for the end of the day. I’m so tired and stuffed up that I really shouldn’t be there but I’ll just keep on keepin’ on until Monday. Hopefully by then I’ll know if I need to deal with a sinus infection or if it’s really just a cold.
We should have had a delay this morning. The main roads were clear and dry but the side streets and most of the roads once I reached the town I work in were terrible. I’m glad I didn’t have to make that drive yesterday!

My pink and brown swap package arrived yesterday and I managed to get photos taken and posted today. NCBelle_36 did a wonderful job of selecting items that I will use and love! Missing from this photo is a package of Hershey’s Dark Chocolate Sticks so just imagine them in there—I think DH may have commandeered them—this is becoming a bad habit with him and my swap chocolates!
With this cold I’ve developed in the last 48 hours, my lips are desperate for moisture so that lip balm/gloss stuff is going to come in quite handy!
I’m so glad that Heather hostesses (Is that a word? Is that how you spell it?) these swaps. They’re such fun!
Today I added a book list page to the site based on what Nancy does—I am terrible about tracking what I read so hopefully this will make it easier to stay on top of for me. If you’re looking for a list of things to read or not read, this might be the place to look!

We’re supposed to get snow tomorrow—8 inches during the day tomorrow changing over to sleet and freezing rain by Wednesday morning. By evening commute Tuesday, they say we need to watch out for bad roads and traffic snags. We didn’t get a delay this morning as I suspected, although ours was one of only three in the area who didn’t delay. Most made the decision last night and I was hopeful that ours was just holding out for morning to see what it really was like, but no such luck!
Today I did manage to schedule an appointment for myself for next Monday afternoon. I’ll be glad to sit and talk about my concerns and see what med-changes can be made to make things better for me health-wise. I’ve got the beginning of one of those rotten colds that’s starting with a drippy nose that feels like there’s a huge log jam behind it. I usually avoid orange juice, and while I haven’t broken down and gotten some, I did pick up some grapefruit juice in hopes of getting a good vitamin C infusion.
I got home today to two packages waiting for me! One was my pink and brown swaparooni package (thanks NCBelle!) and the other was a purse I bought online. I was really excited about both of them. I need to take pictures of the swap package contents, so they’ll be forthcoming tomorrow—there were several beautiful yarns, two headbands, notepads and postit notes, and best of all: dark chocolate!
I was invited to a neighborhood knitting group tonight by my aunt. We were there for about 2 hours and I made some good progress on my french market bag. I haven’t touched this since John had his surgery in September 2006, so the first row of knitting tonight is kind of obvious, but since it’ll be felted, I don’t expect it will be much of a problem. I’m pleased with the progress and probably will need to knit about 2 more inches vertically before I can start binding off for the handles. I’m glad I picked this back up because it’s been sitting idle for way too long!
And for our scare of the day, Zoe was chewing on a teething biscuit while we were waiting for the boys to get home tonight—it was keeping her content while I made dinner. John got home and brought her out to the kitchen. At that point, she didn’t seem to have anything left of it and she started eating some potato at the table, but there must have been a phantom chunk of it left somewhere because before long she was choking. I was sitting off to the side and didn’t realize it until John got up to grab her. He’s always afraid to try to deal with choking kids so he handed her over to me for some back thumping. It took three attempts to really get her back to clear but she didn’t even seem upset after the fact—she left that to John and I to worry about!

Today we had snow squalls and heavy winds. I took Zoe shopping in Wilkes-Barre (about 90 minutes away) because I had some things to return to BRU and that’s the closest one. The wind was blowing so hard that there were a few times when I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep the van on the road—probably a lower profile car would have done much better.
We had lunch at PizzeriaUno—my favorite chain pizza. While we were inside, the wind was blowing so hard that a yield sign outside was rocking back and forth so you couldn’t even read it. There were two snow squalls that were so heavy and combined with the wind it was like a white-out.
My friend Kim came along and kept me company on the drive. (Besides, she had a coupon for Uno!
) I think if she’d known how bad the snow was going to be she would have stayed home, so I’m glad she didn’t know!
AJ stayed home with John and had a neighborhood friend, D, over for lunch, to watch a movie and to play. I think on the whole it was a really good day, but by the time I got home, AJ was tired and crabby. John’s so good with the kids and so patient. Unfortunately, D tried his patience. He must get his own way by whining or grunting at home. John was there telling a seven year old to “use your words” because he couldn’t understand him otherwise. Thank heaven for Miss Jeannie and Miss Mindy who taught us to ask that of AJ! It’s something I’d never heard before he went to this school and it has probably served us best as parents of anything that we’ve learned from them!
It’s currently 12 outside and with wind chill it’s – 6. Tomorrow the high is supposed to be 23 and “feels like 10”. There’s a wind advisory for winds of 20 to 30 miles an hour overnight with gusts between 40 and 50. I wonder if we’ll have a delay to keep the kids from getting frostbite. My gut says no, but boy would my body love a delay!
I hope it’s warm where you are!

I really haven’t been myself for a while now and I’m not quite sure why. I suspect I need to have all my meds checked. My thyroid is probably a bit out of whack which is probably the place to start. But, I’m not sleeping right, I’ve got that “generally dissatisfied with life” nothing specific, nothing obvious, feeling blah kind of feeling. I need to call and make an appointment to see the PA at my doctor’s office and see what she has to say. But I think I feel so blah I need something to motivate me to make that call. :/ So, it’s time to get off my butt and do it, I’ll try to remember on Monday.
