Hey big spender!

AJ got some money from Nonna and Pop and Deanna for Valentine’s day. We hadn’t taken him shopping yet, and Friday night while AJ and I were reading a Tumblebook, Nonna IMed to see if he’d gotten anything yet. He told me to tell her that maybe on the next stay at home day we would go shopping if it wasn’t too snowy to drive, so Saturday we went to visit Great-grandma and went shopping. He had $10 and I told him I’d pay the tax for up to a $10 purchase.

We went to W@lm@rt and scoured the toy section. I knew he really wanted a PowerRanger action figure, but we did walk down a few other aisles first. He saw a few things he liked bu they were too pricy, so we eventually made our way to the action figure aisle. As we made our way down the aisle, I was surprised how many he knew (thank you Cartoon Network!) :( When we got to the PRs, he checked them all out thoroughly. I pointed to the rows he had enough money for and the ones he’d need to save up a little more for—and reminded him that Easter was coming and he’d probably get some money then. After much deliberation, he picked the Red Tiger Ranger. As we walked through the store to pick up a few other items I needed, he wanted to know when we could open the package. I told him after we paid for it, but that he might want to wait until we got home so we didn’t lose any pieces. (We were going to another store for some yarn shopping!) We got up to the register and he put the toy on the conveyor belt and got out his money. He paid and was more interested in the 2 pennies change he got than in the bag with the toy.

When we got to the car, he was amazing and didn’t ask once to open the package. He did say he couldn’t wait to get home and show it to Daddy, but that was really the only mention of it. If he had asked, I would have opened it and let him have the Ranger without all of the tiger accoutrements. But he NEVER asked! I couldn’t believe it. He was cheerful the whole hour it took until we got home. My aunt moved the bag to grab her purse and AJ insisted that it be put back beside his seat when we got back in the van, but other than that he didn’t even have the package in his hands looking longingly at it like I suspect I would have done when I was his age.

He’s become so grown up. I can’t believe he’ll be off to Kindergarten in the fall! On Friday, we were on our way to pick up Zoe and were talking about going to dinner at Damons. We talked about the fact that he liked their bread. I asked if he remembered what kind of bread they had. He couldn’t come up with rolls, even though I kept pressing him. He finally said, “I really have absolutely no clue, mom!” Then a few seconds later, he said, “I think the bread has calcium in it like my milk does to make my bones strong.” (What a nut!)

I love that little guy!
