John gives Zoe a bath; Kim faints (har har)

AJ had a really good day today. He wasn’t all over his sister, he behaved, he took his rest without a battle. After rest, we went out to my friend Theresa’s to visit for a bit and he was great there too.

T’s daughter was playing with me and she ended up getting mad and hit me (not hard, but still it wasn’t nice.) She ended up in time out until she said sorry to me. When we left about an hour later, she still hadn’t said sorry. She’s her father’s daughter, that’s for sure!

We came home and had dinner with John, AJ played with the neighbors for a bit and then came inside for his book (we started The Adventures of Captain Underpants today) and bed. John initially suggested that I should give Zoe a bath, but when I chided him that he could do it as easily as I could, he actually did! I’m so proud of him! I think that’s the second bath he’s given her since she was born.

We’ve been sitting on the porch for the last hour or so, laptops in hand, and enjoying each other’s company. We occasionally share what we’re reading/doing, and then go back to our own little reverie, but it’s been nice. I’m off to bed really soon!

You snooze, you lose

Published by Kim under News, Confessions, AJ, Zoe

If only that could be a weight loss solution! I’ve been feeling really drowsy during the day this week, I could lose a bunch this way. ;)

Yesterday, AJ tried to avoid going to school by claiming he was sick. But he wanted to eat. And he couldn’t keep his hands off his sister. And he was driving me insane! I finally told him that either he settled down and was sick, or he was going to school. By 10:30 we were on our way. It turned out that he was “sick” because his best friend didn’t want to play with him on Monday. They had a good day together yesterday though and AJ was well-behaved.

Last night we finished reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and this morning we started reading The Adventures of Captain Underpants. AJ’s enjoyed Tales and after we finish Capt. Underpants, we’ll go back to reading about Fudge—I’ve got Superfudge and Fudge-a-mania hanging around waiting for him.

John’s been running, which is great—for him. For us, it’s been a real problem. He wants to run after work and before dinner. That meant that last night, we didn’t get dinner until 6:30 and the kids are usually in bed by 7. It’s just not fair to them to have to wait that long. I told him he either needs to run after his dinner’s settled (it’s light until 9pm for heaven’s sake!) or he needs to get up early and run before work. We’ll see what happens, but what’s going on now just won’t work.

Meltdown monster

Published by Kim under News, Confessions, AJ

I love AJ dearly, but I cannot take his meltdowns. Today, we went to the free movie at a local theater (Bee Movie, loved it!)

Afterward, we had lunch with John. When we first arrived, he was fine, but by the time the food arrived he was in full-on grump. John ended up taking him outside to talk to him for a minute or two. After that, they were back inside to pay. AJ came out with me and we loaded up in the car. He was clearly worn out (Zoe woke him up this morning when she was fussing) and I still wanted to do some quick shopping.

John offered AJ a piece of gum before we left and he declined. Then after John was gone, he wanted the gum. We’ve been talking about consequences of action (and inaction) and so I reminded him of that. He started crying. He started wailing and screaming and kicking my seat. When he hit Zoe’s carseat, I pulled off the road to wait him out. He eventually calmed down and apologized. WHY does he do this, it drives me crazy!

We did our shopping and he was great. We got home and he went up for rest good. Then he wanted to lay with me. I slept; he didn’t. He ended up out playing with the neighbor when we got up, and we ended the night on a positive. He even came inside without a fight. (I had more of a problem with the neighbor, but that’s not a surprise.) He fell asleep quickly, which is unusual. I guess we’ll see how Friday goes (tomorrow’s a school day—a break for me!)

Dragging

Published by Kim under News, Work, Building

Today I was feeling ambitious and hoping I was going to get all of my work stuff packed up and ready to move to the high school. I did get most things done, but I’ve still got one box of “clear the counters for summer cleaning” that needs to be gone through and sorted into trash, leave, take, or send. Same thing for one section of shelves, but then I’ll be done. I’ve probably only got another two hours of work left to do, so not too bad.

I have no clue how long it will things to actually be moved to the new building, but hopefully I can find that out soon. Since I’ll have Zoe on Thursday, it seems that Monday’s probably the best day to go and finish things up. If I time it right, I might be able to wrap up at the MS in the morning and head up to the HS in the afternoon and get an overview of what’ll be on my docket there. I’ll have to see if that works for the HS principal.

We got a finalized cost proposal from the builders in the mail today. There are a few things I know she missed and one change we want to make on the fireplace location. I hope it won’t mess things up to much to make those adjustments. I ran the numbers through a mortgage rate calculator and I’m sure it’s doable. :D happy dance

We just need to have a sales agreement from the neighbor and we’re in business!
