Summer work’s almost done…

Published by Kim under News, Fun Stuff, LSLplanning

Well, It’s been just over two months since I posted about my school being selected for a federal Improving Literacy through School Libraries grant. In that time, we have:

  • removed all of the reference books and magazines from that section of the library;

  • wired for a new 30 computer lab with a smartboard and projector;

  • discarded over 4000 books that were outdated;

  • painted the library pillars and walls that were a 70s goldenrod a nice serene eggshell (What a huge difference this makes!);

  • met with our grant evaluator to share the proposal, talk about the direction of the grant and future meeting dates;

  • ordered hard and software for two labs—one desktop and one wireless;

  • talked with department chairs and principals requesting their help and support;

  • showed the library to a reporter from the Sun Gazette and given him some quotes and the opportunity to take some pictures;

  • discussed the implementation of a coffee bar with an area librarian and her coffee supplier.

Even with all of that accomplished, I’ve still got a lot to do—most especially related to ordering materials. I cannot imagine how we will order and process approximately 8000 new books this year in addition to my normal spending! I’m so glad that teachers and students will be helping to decide what to order. I will post some pictures soon, I promise.
