We started reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with AJ a few weeks ago, reading a chapter a night—not every night, but when we had time, we read. Last night, we finished the book and I’d promised AJ that when we were done with the book, we would watch the movie.

Tonight, John, AJ and I watched the movie after Zoe went to bed. We kept trying to point out differences between the book and the movie to AJ, but he was having a hard time keeping the characters straight. When he looked at the cover of the DVD today, he said, “They looked different in my mind, but now I know what they really look like.” I kind of feel badly that we destroyed his vision of the characters and setting. I do know that Harry looked very different from how I first pictured him, but now when I read the later books, he only looks like Daniel Radcliffe. It’s kind of a shame that characters become actors in that way.
