Little Bo Peep

bopeephas lost her books and shan’t know where to find them.

On Friday, my first big grant shipment was supposed to be delivered to my building. The books in the 63 boxes are in shelf order and ready to be placed directly on the bookshelves. Before leaving school, I spoke with our building custodians and maintenance staff about the delivery and told them where I’d like the boxes to be placed. I went to work today fully expecting them to be on the tables ready to be opened, checked in, unpacked, labelled with genre labels where necessary, and sent out for the students to read.

I got to school and there were no boxes and no books. I put in a call to Dave, the person who usually brings me my book orders. He said, “no books or boxes down here.” So, I went to the email with a tracking number and then the site of the delivery company where I found that they were delivered at 1:22 on Friday afternoon. Next, I called the book jobber and my sales rep to see if they knew where the books could be. No answer. Then, I called the delivery company gave them my tracking number and asked where the books had been delivered. She asked where they were supposed to be delivered and I told her the school’s address. She told me who signed for them and I said, “That’s not where they were to be delivered.” So next I called that person and got voicemail. Finally, I called the man who usually checks in all district orders at the delivery location. He said that they were there!

I explained that they were to be delivered to the high school and that they were placed in the boxes in a specific order. He asked about them being stamped with the district property stamp. I said that we’d worked that out between the assistant superintendent, the book jobber and me and they were to come to the high school. Apparently he didn’t like that, so he or his boss called the Assistant Superintendent, who called me, called them back, called me back and got them to bring them to me at the high school this afternoon about 20 minutes before the end of the day.

So, the books have been found and they’re ready to be unloaded tomorrow. I can’t wait! Christmas in November!
