Pink and Brown Swaparooni

Published by Kim under News, What I'm Reading, Fun Stuff, Swaps

pink and brown swaparooniMy pink and brown swap package arrived yesterday and I managed to get photos taken and posted today. NCBelle_36 did a wonderful job of selecting items that I will use and love! Missing from this photo is a package of Hershey’s Dark Chocolate Sticks so just imagine them in there—I think DH may have commandeered them—this is becoming a bad habit with him and my swap chocolates!

With this cold I’ve developed in the last 48 hours, my lips are desperate for moisture so that lip balm/gloss stuff is going to come in quite handy!

I’m so glad that Heather hostesses (Is that a word? Is that how you spell it?) these swaps. They’re such fun!

Today I added a book list page to the site based on what Nancy does—I am terrible about tracking what I read so hopefully this will make it easier to stay on top of for me. If you’re looking for a list of things to read or not read, this might be the place to look!

Bad storm coming

Published by Kim under News, Knitting, Confessions, Zoe, Swaps

We’re supposed to get snow tomorrow—8 inches during the day tomorrow changing over to sleet and freezing rain by Wednesday morning. By evening commute Tuesday, they say we need to watch out for bad roads and traffic snags. We didn’t get a delay this morning as I suspected, although ours was one of only three in the area who didn’t delay. Most made the decision last night and I was hopeful that ours was just holding out for morning to see what it really was like, but no such luck!

Today I did manage to schedule an appointment for myself for next Monday afternoon. I’ll be glad to sit and talk about my concerns and see what med-changes can be made to make things better for me health-wise. I’ve got the beginning of one of those rotten colds that’s starting with a drippy nose that feels like there’s a huge log jam behind it. I usually avoid orange juice, and while I haven’t broken down and gotten some, I did pick up some grapefruit juice in hopes of getting a good vitamin C infusion.

I got home today to two packages waiting for me! One was my pink and brown swaparooni package (thanks NCBelle!) and the other was a purse I bought online. I was really excited about both of them. I need to take pictures of the swap package contents, so they’ll be forthcoming tomorrow—there were several beautiful yarns, two headbands, notepads and postit notes, and best of all: dark chocolate! :D
I was invited to a neighborhood knitting group tonight by my aunt. We were there for about 2 hours and I made some good progress on my french market bag. I haven’t touched this since John had his surgery in September 2006, so the first row of knitting tonight is kind of obvious, but since it’ll be felted, I don’t expect it will be much of a problem. I’m pleased with the progress and probably will need to knit about 2 more inches vertically before I can start binding off for the handles. I’m glad I picked this back up because it’s been sitting idle for way too long!

And for our scare of the day, Zoe was chewing on a teething biscuit while we were waiting for the boys to get home tonight—it was keeping her content while I made dinner. John got home and brought her out to the kitchen. At that point, she didn’t seem to have anything left of it and she started eating some potato at the table, but there must have been a phantom chunk of it left somewhere because before long she was choking. I was sitting off to the side and didn’t realize it until John got up to grab her. He’s always afraid to try to deal with choking kids so he handed her over to me for some back thumping. It took three attempts to really get her back to clear but she didn’t even seem upset after the fact—she left that to John and I to worry about!

Crying children exhaust me

Published by Kim under News, Confessions, AJ, Zoe, Swaps

Zoe was pretty fussy from the time I picked her up until John gave in and put her to bed. AJ was fussy over something—I don’t remember what it was but I sent him to the stairs to have his fuss out of my face and Zoe’s. When he calmed down, he came to apologize and he didn’t remember what he was upset about either.

I’ve still got a headache from it all and I probably should call it a night but I wasn’t sure if my word association exercise truly counts as a blog post for NaBloPoMo.

I finally got my gift for my swaparooni partner packed up and will stop by the post office tomorrow to ship it off to Tennesee. (Sorry for the delay, Paulette!) Tomorrow I’ll try to photograph my gift pack from her and get it posted. I got lots of really neat things!

Nothing’s going right

Published by Kim under News, Apple of My Eye, Sick babies, AJ, Zoe, Swaps

I’m so worried about little Miss Zoe and her illness/reflux/whatever it is that is plaguing her. She has been giving back copious amounts of her formula since Wednesday. I ended up calling her doctor’s answering service last night after I told a friend that she’d only kept down about four ounces yesterday. She thought I should take Zoe to the ER. The doc didn’t think that was necessary, fortunately. I was told to give her formula in the morning if she had wet diapers but electrolytes if she didn’t. She was starving last night at 11pm, so we filled her belly with the pedi@lyte and hoped she’d make it through till morning—which she did.

Today, she gave back probably 4 ounces. She did take 6 ounces of pedi@lyte at 6 this morning, then 2 ounces, then three ounces. I gave her her first dose of meds at 3 this afternoon and then fed her 3 ounces. She slept and I fed her again after we had supper. She was turning away from the bottle and then pulling it back to her. She finished only to give it all back plus some partially digested stuff from her last feeding. John fed her about 8 and that 3 ounces seems to have stayed down. We’ll feed her again in a bit for the last time today (I guess that’ll total 17 ounces of formula and 6 ounces of electrolytes. Not quite the mandated 25 ounces, but probably closer than we’ve been in four days. Of this, though, she probably gave back at least 4 ounces. So is that normal or is she going to be losing weight and have us back to doing weight checks like we had to do with AJ?

brownblueswaparooniI finally got a chance to photograph my Brown and Blue Swaparooni package. When I did, I was looking for the bag of chocolate I got, but it wasn’t on the table and it hadn’t fallen off the table either. I wandered to the kitchen and found the empty! (yes, I said E-M-P-T-Y!) bag in the trash. I got to eat two whole pieces of chocolate from this bag. There had to have been at least a dozen! Only two, really? So, I fussed at John who said “You said you didn’t like them.” Yeah, right, me not like dark chocolate . . . I guess he can live with that, but I don’t buy it. So, he and AJ ate most of my chocolate. AJ wants my candle from the swap. I guess I’ll have to take the lotion, body butter, notebook and notecards and pens to work so that I can use them or I might not have a shot at them either. At any rate, Sheena did an awesome job selecting items for me, even if I didn’t get to enjoy everything. Did I mention that I love dark chocolate and I didn’t get more than two pieces from this bag? :( Boys!

I think John’s probably ready to kick my butt up around my ears anyhow because it seems like anything he does makes me grouse at him. I was grumpy on Friday at my uncle’s retirement party. I was grumpy yesterday because Zoe’s so sick and I feel like I’m doing most of the feeding and clean up. I was grumpy today for that reason, plus AJ didn’t eat all of his dinner and John gave him snacks even though I told him he needed to finish dinner before he got anything else. Plus, did I remember to mention that they ATE MY CHOCOLATE! I just wanna cry. I probably should go to bed and hope I wake up on the right side tomorrow.

Brown and Blue Swaperooni

Published by Kim under News, Fun Stuff, Swaps

BrownANDblueSwaperooniI just joined the Brown and Blue Swaparooni. I don’t remember how I found out about the color swaps, but I think it was related to a pink and green swap—I wish I hadn’t missed that one! At any rate, I signed up and this is my little advertisment. If you’d like to join the swap, go to the Brown and Blue Signup page and add yourself to the list!

I love swaps although I’m notoriously bad about getting my things sent off in time. The good news is, I have until the end of August to get my stuff act together and get it all sent. I think I can live with that time line, so I’m ready to go. :)

I think that this swap appeals to me because I love Vera Bradley’s Java Blue pattern (pictured to the right). (Hmmmm I think some of the swap graphic is reminiscent of this pattern, don’t you?) Perhaps the swap mistress has seen the Bradley collection!

So, if you like blue and brown, this might be the thing for you! It’s bound to be good fun!

I still need to come up with my list of likes and dislikes and a post about me for here on my blog. We’ll see how that all comes together in the next few days…you know, because I’m really a procrastinator, but that’s all right. Admitting my problem is the first step, right?
